Star Wars: The Age of Awakening (also known as Star Wars: Episode VII - The Age of Awakening) is a 2017 American
epic space opera film directed by David Ayer. The film is the first in the Star Wars sequel trilogy and seventh instalment overall, with a screenplay by Jake Kasdan and J.J. Abrams based on a story treatment from Josh Friedman and continues the saga thirty-five years on from the events of Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. It is succeeded by 2019's Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi and 2021's Star Wars: Episode IX - Duel of the Fates.

39 ABY. Three and a half decades on from the destruction of the second Imperial Death Star and the death of Dark Lord of the Sith, Sheev Palpatine, the galaxy has entered a new age of restoration. The Allied Federation for a Free Republic leads the front for a new galactic democracy; however, a remnant faction of the Empire remains active in the furthest reaches of space, and a new manifestation of the Dark Side of the Force has started to plague any promise of peace.

Billie Lourd as Rey Organa: The daughter of Leia Organa and Han Solo, serving as a delegate for the Allied Federation for a Free Republic.
Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa: Former Princess of Alderaan, general of the Old Rebellion and political leader within the Allied Federation for a Free Republic, Leia Organa is now searching for her fraternal twin brother, Luke. Leia is a powerful Force user, and is known to have trained at least one other. Fisher does not actually appear in the film, but had been set to star in the following two; however, Fisher's death in December 2016 led to her character being written out of the trilogy and leaving Leia unseen save for flashbacks to the events of the original trilogy. The Age of Awakening is dedicated to her memory.
TBC as Ben Solo/Tiro Malum: The son of Leia Organa, nephew of Luke Skywalker and great-grandson of Sheev Palpatine, Ben is the vessel for the deceased Emperor's soul, and the true heir to the Galactic Empire.
