The LEGO Movie 3: A Powerpuff Adventure is a 2024 American-Danish-Australian 3D computer-animated crossover superhero comedy film produced by the Warner Animation Group. It is the direct sequel to and is the first film in the franchise to be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures since The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part (2019). The first crossover film in the franchise, it is directed by Star vs. the Forces of Evil creator Daron Nefcy. It is also the fifth film in the franchise. It stars the voices of Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Amanda Leighton, Kristen Li, Natalie Palamides, Olivia Olson, Will Arnett, Alison Brie, Charlie Day, Nick Offerman, Tiffany Haddish, Stephanie Beatriz, Tom Kenny, Jennifer Hale, Roger L. Jackson, and Haley Mancini.
The LEGO Movie 3 was released on February 9, 2024 in 2D, 3D, RealD 3D, Dolby Cinema, and IMAX 3D by Warner Bros. Pictures, and was well-received by critics and audiences alike, praising the animation, voice acting, character appearances, humor, style, soundtrack, and visuals. With a worldwide gross of over $1 billion worldwide against a budget of $70 million, the film outgrossed each of the previous LEGO films in the series and became the seventh highest-grossing film of 2024. A sequel is in development.

Development
During an interview with Moviefone on February 7, 2019, Chris Pratt (Emmet's voice actor) expresses his idea for a potential third film in the series.
However, following The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part's disappointing box office returns, Warner Bros. allowed their film rights with LEGO to expire. LEGO has later entered in negotiations with Universal Pictures for a new first-look deal. While the original characters and film are owned by Warner Bros. Pictures, Universal Pictures will develop and distribute future LEGO films (such as own films and spin-off). Dan Lin is expected to remain as producer through his company Rideback. In April 2020, the deal with Universal was set for a 5-year film deal.
On March 2022, AT&T and Comcast were in plans to merge WarnerMedia with NBCUniversal to form a new company under the new name "WarnerUniversal", after AT&T decided to cancel the WarnerMedia/Discovery merger, which would have been "Warner Bros. Discovery", originally going to merge in mid-2022, but was eventually cancelled by March 2022. The deal was expected to close on January 29, 2024. AT&T owned 50% of the new company, and Comcast owned the other 50%. This caused The LEGO Movie franchise to move back to Warner Bros., thus leaving Universal Pictures except for an untitled LEGO Movie film, which is now the only film in the franchise to be distributed by Universal Pictures.
As a result of The LEGO Movie 3: A Powerpuff Adventure starting production, Cartoon Network Studios even brought back the 2016 reboot of The Powerpuff Girls on May 20, 2022 for three more seasons (Seasons 4, 5, and 6), making this reboot conclude after six seasons (as well as the musical movie), the same amount as the 1998 series. All cringe and toilet humor in this reboot were permanently removed from the series (meaning no more twerking or outdated memes from Season 4 onward), as musical numbers, a lot of heart, and heartwarming messages were put in to replace the cringe and toilet humor previously used in Seasons 1-3. Amanda Leighton, Kristen Li, and Natalie Palamides improved on their voice acting on Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup. The trio in Seasons 4-6 the reboot was added up to four, with Blisstina being the newest member of the group.
Starting with Season 4, the animators stopped using the digital ink and paint method for animating the episodes, resulting in traditional animation no longer being used for the series. Starting with Season 4, the animation studio for the series switched over to have 2 animation studios, which are Copernicus Studios and Bardel Entertainment in Canada, and as a result of that, the animators at the 2 aforementioned studios started animating the series using 2D animation and CGI animation. The characters were 2D animated with Toon Boom Harmony, while the rest was animated in CGI with CG Maya (backgrounds, vehicles, trees, robots, etc). Soon after, Copernicus Studios provided all the 2D animation with Toon Boom Harmony, and Bardel Entertainment also provided some additional 2D animation with Toon Boom Harmony, but provided all the CGI with CG Maya, meaning Brdel Entertainment provided all of the 3D/CGI animation for the series. The developers decided to animate everything (backgrounds, houses, trees, water (oceans, lakes, pools, and ponds), buildings, the sky, places (the inside of the places as well), all types of vehicles (land vehicles, sea vehicles, air vehicles, helicopters, planes, blimps, submarines, etc.) in CGI, except the characters (except in scenes where it would be too hard to put the 2D animated versions of the characters, which so they were also animated in CGI), so they can give it more realism and sometimes put the camera like in a real scene wherever they like.
All of the CGI has been made in the same style, same frame rate, and same lighting as in the racing game by Playground Games (now part of Xbox Game Studios) Forza Horizon 5. In addition, the characters were sometimes given the same shading as the backgrounds to further match it. The frame rate for the 2D animation has also been changed to match the same as with the CGI animation. Additionally, everything (backgrounds, houses, trees, water (oceans, lakes, pools, and ponds), buildings, the sky, places (the inside of the places as well), all types of vehicles (land vehicles, sea vehicles, air vehicles, helicopters, planes, blimps, submarines, etc.), minus the Utonium Residence house (even if animated in CGI), has been made to be realistic and look a lot like in Forza Horizon 5, Microsoft’s amateur flight simulator program for Windows, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Xbox Cloud Gaming Microsoft Flight Simulator (air vehicles), and the multi-platform game by Rockstar Games Grand Theft Auto V Xbox Series X/S edition (buildings, houses, trees, buildings, the sky, places (the inside of the places as well), trees, water (oceans, lakes, pools, and ponds), and all land vehicles,). Because of the CGI used, The City of Townsville has then been made to look so realistic, and has been made to look a whole lot like Los Santos from Grand Theft Auto V. However, some parts have also been made to look like New York City.
In some scenes where it would be too hard to put in the 2D animated characters into the CGI animated vehicles, the crew at Bardel Entertainment made CGI versions of the characters to put in the backgrounds or vehicles to substitute the 2D animated versions of the characters.
Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup will also improve on their singing (on the musical numbers) during these seasons, and Blisstina will have an amazing singing voice (provided by Olivia Olson/Alesha Dixon in the UK, African, and Australian versions). for the musical numbers.
The fourth season will be in 2022, the fifth season will be from 2023-2024, and the sixth and final season will be in 2024.
Starting with Season 4, the series would have a new theme song which was sung by Blossom (Amanda Leighton), Bubbles (Kristen Li), Buttercup (Natalie Palamides), and Bliss (Olivia Olson). It was also used for the end credits in the film.
Starting with these seasons, Blossom redeemed herself back to being an intelligent, dutiful, and kind-hearted leader and abandon her “stereotypical, bratty, and mean-spirited” personality, Bubbles redeemed herself back to being the sweet and cheerful member of the four, while also having an amazing singing voice, her own Ice Form (based on the Ice Form/Suit Power-up from Super Mario), a kind heart, and a passion to grow up to become old and wise, and of course, she will abandoned her “psychotic, annoying, goody-two-shoes crybaby” personality, Buttercup abandoned her “complete bully” personality, banish all “butt-jokes” from her life forever, and redeemed herself into a tough but friendly model to her family and friends, and Blisstina appeared in more episodes of the reboot in Seasons 4-6, as she resigned as the member of the Universal Protection Bureau so that she will spend more time with her sisters, fight crime, and save Townsville alongside them; she also attended school with them.
One of the other additions to this reboot is that Blisstina has her own bedroom, with a front doorway that leads straight to the Girls’ bedroom. The original songs for Seasons 4, 5, and 6 of the 2016 iteration of The Powerpuff Girls were written by The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part songwriter Jon Lajoie. The soundtrack album for the reboot was available on WaterTower Music. Seasons 4-6 also marked the return of Sedusa and Ms. Bellum, with Jennifer Hale and Jennifer Martin reprising their roles respectively. As a result of being renewed for three more seasons, the 2016 reboot of The Powerpuff Girls aired on the Cartoon Network channel again.
The first episode of Season 4 focused on Blossom, Bubbles, Buttercup, and Professor Utonium giving Bliss a new room, after she quit the UPB to spend time with her family, while the second episode focused on Blossom, Bubbles, Buttercup, and Bliss attending space camp for two weeks, and Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup explain to Bliss the events of Home, Sweet Homesick, while the four try the park attractions and carnival rides, and the third episode featured Ms. Bellum returning to Townsville after she cut her vacation days short due to missing him. In the fourth episode, it’s time to pay the taxes, and while Bubbles is paying the taxes for Professor Utonium, she realizes Blossom was spending lots of money to build ScheduleBot 2. After she realizes who will pay the taxes after Bubbles left, Blossom goes in and tries to pay them, but since she didn’t know how to, she ends up writing they “made 4 cents.” However, she gets in big trouble with the IRS as soon as they find out. According to the IRS, under the 2nd amendment of the federal Townsville tax bureau, the tax fraud she has committed is very illegal. This eventually lands her in jail, while she meets up with Princess Morbucks, who got stuck in jail for tax evasion as well (Note: This is the first episode where Buttercup doesn’t appear at all. Also, this episode is a parody to the SMG4 episode Mario Commits Tax Fraud).
Danny Cooksey, Greg Cipes, and James Arnold Taylor voiced Brick, Boomer, and Butch respectively in Seasons 4-6, The LEGO Movie 3: A Powerpuff Adventure, and The Powerpuff Girls: The Movie: Generations. Adam McArthur will voice Blake, the fourth Rowdyruff Boy. These seasons were in tandem with the live-action reboot of The Powerpuff Girls on The CW.
Seasons 4-6 will have 1 or 2 songs for each episode. If it’s a double length episode, then it will have 3 songs. Each song will last 1 minute and 45 seconds. The narrator will also come back in Seasons 4, 5, and 6.
Starting with Season 4, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup went back to wearing their nightgowns for sleepwear. In addition, Bliss also had her own nightgown for sleepwear in light purple. She also had her own swimsuit.
Starting with Season 4, the intro and end credits will be updated to include Blisstina Utonium (with Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup still intact), with Craig McCracken coming back to Cartoon Network to join the 2016 collaborators.
The LEGO Movie 3: A Powerpuff Adventure takes place between the fifth and sixth seasons of the 2016 reboot of The Powerpuff Girls, and The Powerpuff Girls: The Movie: Generations takes place after the sixth and final season.
On May 3, 2023, Jared Stern was hired to write the sequel, along with Michelle Morgan. On May 12, 2023, Deadline reported that animation co-director Chris McKay would direct the sequel with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller as producers. On June 3, 2023, it was reported that McKay wanted the sequel to be a crossover. On July 28, 2023, it was reported that Chris Pratt wanted to return to reprise his role as Emmet. It was also reported that Will Arnett might return to reprise his role as Batman.
It was reported that Lord and Miller had signed on to write The LEGO Movie 3. On October 30, it was announced that Australia-based animation studio Animal Logic was in talks to produce the next four LEGO films (though the deal was not finalized at the time) and the New South Wales government would make financial contributions to all the films. On November 12, during an interview with BBC News, Lord and Miller revealed that there would be more characters from the Warner Bros., Warner Animation Group, DC Comics, Hanna-Barbera, and Cartoon Network library featured in the film, as well as the ones from the previous four LEGO movies.
On December 24, 2023, Star vs. the Forces of Evil creator and CalArts alumna Daron Nefcy was announced as the film's director. Miller announced that the first draft of the script was completed. Production started in Canada on March 31, 2022. In an interview with Collider, producer Dan Lin confirmed that Lord & Miller were rewriting the script during production. Also Lin said that the sequel was going to be a crossover with the 2016 reboot of The Powerpuff Girls.
The production of the film took advantage of Animal Logic's latest update to its trace renderer, Glimpse, to improve on-screen detail and depth-of-field.
Writing
The LEGO Movie 3's narrative starts after the events of the The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, just as Finn and Bianca reconcile and start playing together. The animation team explored multiple design styles for each playset that is within the LEGO version of the City of Townsville, and developed new animation approaches for some of these styles, including using fewer frames as in inbetweening.
According to Lord and Miller, each LEGO Movie takes place in the imagination of a child. Miller explained that “we wanted to try and tell a more complicated and sophisticated version of that story, where we had two different imaginations coming together. And part of the fun of the movie is trying to figure out what’s happening in the world of the LEGO."

Phil Lord confirmed that his and Miller's frequent collaborator Mark Mothersbaugh composed the score for the film. The film was theatrically released in the United States, North America and the Philippines on February 9, 2024 in 2D, 3D, IMAX, IMAX 3D, RealD 3D, Dolby Cinema, and 4DX.
Promotional tie-ins
LEGO released a toyline theme of over 25+ sets and polybags based on scenes from the film, including collectable Minifigures. There will also be a LEGO Movie 3 SDCC Set called "Biznis Kitty", with two expressions.
In the UK, DFS Furniture ran a marketing campaign that will tie in with The LEGO Movie 3.
In the Philippines, Smart Communications Inc. promoted The LEGO Movie 3 along with PLDT, Sun Cellular, and TNT, with the promo GigaSurf50, where you get 1GB for free Netflix and LEGO Life. Philippine Airlines also updated their safety video for their airplanes to promote the entire franchise and the film itself, and added the entire LEGO Movie franchise to their touch-screen devices, including the whole Unikitty! series. Turkish Airlines also followed.
Other worldwide brands that partnered with the film include Chevrolet for promoting the return of the LEGO Batmobile and 2019 Silverado, Sky UK, Unilever and Frito-Lay for all of its worldwide brands, Nestlé, and General Mills for their breakfast cereals, Colgate toothpastes and toothbrushes along with the Colgate Plax brand, Cignal TV, PureFoods for the Tender Juicy Hotdog brands, McDonald's for Happy Meal toys and Coca-Cola glasses, Duty Free Philippines, Coca-Cola, Oreo Cookies, Chips Ahoy!, Tic Tac, xfinity, the GroupOn app, the HBO Max and Peacock streaming services, Pennzoil, Shell, and Ferrari.
Shell rereleased the LEGO Ferrari collections, and included The LEGO Movie 3 sets and a trip to the LEGOLAND theme parks worldwide. However, the Shell oil rigs remained closed.
On Black Friday 2023, Warner Bros. and Cartoon Network will release 2002’s The Powerpuff Girls Movie on YouTube in its entirety for one day only, with a trailer for The LEGO Movie 3: A Powerpuff Adventure attached.
Devsisters Corporation will partner with Warner Bros. to collaborate Cookie Run: Kingdom with The LEGO Movie 3: A Powerpuff Adventure. The collaboration will also serve as a promotional tie-in for the film.

On August 1, 2023, Turkish Airlines and Warner Bros. released a special safety video featuring characters from the franchise. Warner Bros. released a new short film, titled Wyldstyle's Holiday Party, a sequel to Emmet's Holiday Party.
Home Media
The LEGO Movie 3: A Powerpuff Adventure was released on digital and Movies Anywhere on April 16, 2024 and released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on Blu-Ray Disc, Blu-Ray 3D, Ultra HD Blu-Ray (with IMAX Enhanced), Blu-Ray 4K, and DVD on May 7, 2024. The Blu-Ray and DVD releases include the short Wyldstyle's Holiday Party, the filmmakers commentary, the outtakes, and the behind-the-bricks featurette. It also has the teaser trailer for The Powerpuff Girls: The Movie: Generations. All the releases include some deleted scenes and some of the entire episodes of The Powerpuff Girls shows from 1998 to 2016.

Box Office
The LEGO Movie 3: A Powerpuff Adventure has grossed $264.6 million in the United States and Canada and $770.2 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $1.034 billion, against a production budget of $48 million. Worldwide, it is the highest-grossing film of 2024, the highest-grossing animated film of 2024, the highest-grossing animated film, and the highest-grossing film released by both Warner Bros. and Universal Pictures. It topped the worldwide box office for three consecutive weekends.
In North America, the film was projected to gross $30-35 million in its opening weekend. It played in 4,529 theaters, setting the record for widest release of all time, and beating the amount set by Frozen II in 2019, which released in 4,440 theaters. It made $4.1 million from Thursday night previews, an improvement over the $1.5 million of The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, and $29.2 million on its first day, an improvement over the $8.5 million of The LEGO Movie 2. It went on to debut to $72.4 million, beating projections and finishing first, while also topping the box office and becoming the best opening for a Warner Animation Group film. It also opened to more than the next four films did combined (Shrek 5's $20.6 million, Trolls 3's $16.9 million, Despicable Me 4's $15.7 million, and Cars 4's $9.7 million). In its second weekend the film grossed $33.6 million, remaining in first.
Internationally the film was released in five markets on February 20, 2024, and grossed $9.9 million in its opening weekend. In its third week of release the film opened in 46 more markets, grossing $95.6 million. The film's largest markets were China ($158.2 million), Japan ($66.2 million), the UK ($62.7 million), Germany ($43.8 million) and France ($41.4 million).

Critical response
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 96% based on 282 reviews, with an average rating of 9.5/10. The website's critical consensus reads, "The LEGO Movie 3: A Powerpuff Adventure is a mind-blowing continuation of the LEGO film series and a crossover with The Powerpuff Girls." On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 79 out of 100, based on 100 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews". Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "A+" on an A+ to F scale, an improvement over the first film's "A" and the sequel's "A-", while those at PostTrak gave it an average 4.5 out of 5 stars; social media monitor RelishMix noted online responses to the film were "better".
Videogame
Warner Bros. Games created The LEGO Movie 3 Videogame that included more than 500 playable characters. It is available on XBOX, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. The game is produced by The LEGO Group, Warner Bros. Games, TT Games, and Cartoon Network Games.
Despite following the same plot of The LEGO Movie 3: A Powerpuff Adventure, there are many bonus story elements that relate to the previous films: the main locations from The LEGO Movie, The LEGO Batman Movie, The LEGO Ninjago Movie, The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, and The LEGO Movie 3: A Powerpuff Adventure, such as The Old West, Middle Zealand, the original Bricksburg (which is dubbed "Classic Bricksburg") return, Apocalypseburg, the Systar System, New York City, Gotham City, the Phantom Zone, Ninjago City, the Temple of Fragile Foundations, Townsville, Echo Creek, and the Kingdom of Mewni.
