This movie is based on the premiere episode of the franchise Day of the Dumpster.
Back in 2004, there was supposed to be a movie taking place in Power Rangers: Dino Thunder using footage from two Super Sentai movies; Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger DELUXE: Abare Summer is Freezing Cold and Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger vs. Hurricaneger, while doing original content for the film.
It was supposed to crossover with Ninja Storm with Jason Chen, the Green Samurai Ranger appearing in the mix.
It could've had the first ever appearance of the SPD as a cameo at the end of the film.
Due to production issues, the movie was scrapped in favor of an original concept.
Development on a third Rangers movie started in 2000 with entirely original material using elements of the original Mighty Morphin' seasons.
When Disney disowned the rights to the franchise before RPM aired, the film's distribution rights went to Warner Bros. Pictures, with Universal Pictures internationally.
Power Rangers: Green Eclipse (2011)
This movie is based on the multi-part episode Green with Evil, where Tommy becomes the green ranger to defeat Lord Zedd and the MMPR team.
Power Rangers: Redemption (2013)
This movie is based on the premiere multi-part episode of Zeo called A Zeo Beginning where the MMPR team becomes the Zeo team.
There were sequels proposed after this, two set for 2015, 2017 and 2019 respectively.
The main antagonists were supposed to be Ivan Ooze (MMPR: the Movie) for the fourth movie, Vengix (RPM) for the fifth, and Lord Drakkon (MMPR) for the sixth.
The fifth and sixth movies are supposed to be a two-part concluder using elements from In Space.
Since Jason and Kimberley’s relationship is going strong, the forth movie will have its origins and the other two will show more development of their pairing.
Animatronics for Rito, Anubis and TBA were designed by Jim Henson's Creature Shop.
